Well, I have finally loaded up Drupal 6 for my Drup-ol (Drupal-Out Loud) sandbox. It has taken longer than expected, but I have a new task in front of me. I have been asked to develop a way for users to create a directory entry to list their information. This entry needs to include basic information and detailed information about the person, while being search-able. The search-able listings will need to just display a teaser view providing the basics and a more detailed variation when clicked. While this is rather straight forward in Drupal 6, the next part is not.
An option for "featured" listings needs to be added as well. This option will allow a user to send money via PayPal to the site owner. Upon sending the payment, the user will have immediate access to update their listing and will be displayed among the other featured listings. For those without PayPal accounts information will be available so they can mail a check/money order. For those that choose to mail a payment, the site owner needs a streamlined method of adding the individual to the system as a featured listing, as well as notifying the user that their account has been created. All listings need to be completely sustainable by the end-user to lessen the work load on the client. Another possible function of the featured listings may be an expiration date, although I'm not sure on whether or not this will be implemented at this phase or not.
So with all that said, I figured what better time to load up Drup-ol. If I ever need to implement this again, all my work will be right here for me to refer to. Also, anyone else looking to implement this, can do so as well, since I hope to thoroughly document the process.
Last but not least, for those that are curious...the Drupal 6 version of Drup-ol is simply running on the same install as this site. They share the same Drupal source files, however I have setup separate MySQL databases for each. The Drupal 7 variation will run on it's own Drupal code-base (duh!) and it's own MySQL database. But this implementation, might not be available for quite sometime.
If you have any questions on what I'm doing or what I've done, drop me a line.
Keep on taggin',
:cD
UPDATE: Drup-ol is no longer maintained. I just couldn't keep up with all the updates of modules and Drupal core.
