Yet Another AWESOME Web Tool: Less CSS

Less CSSWhen writing CSS for large sites and/or redesigns, does it ever feel like your duplicating style after style? The one thing about CSS that really gets me down sometimes, is the duplication of effort.

For instance, you set a color in your stylesheet via a hexidecimal value and after about 20 minutes you realize you need to reuse that color for another id/class. Since you are using several hex values, its hard to remember which is which so now you have to go back and dig through the stylesheet to find the one you want.

Enter LESS, a leaner CSS. Taken directly from their site "Less extends css by adding: variables, mixins, operations and nested rules." Now you're probably thinking, "Huh? CSS doesn't have variables...does it?". Well, no it doesn't, but LESS does.

Mission: Get an iPhone 3G S for $199; Failed

iPhone 3G SMy futile attempts to get an iPhone 3G S for the fully subsidized price of $199 has come to pass. I did what any desperate, impatient, early adopter would do...beg and plea.

First, I decided to just call AT&T and ask a customer service representative (CSR) if they could adjust my upgradability date. I got the idea from an Information Week article. This however was unsuccessful. I was extremely pleasant on the call and you could tell the CSR was appreciative of this. She genuinely sounded like she wanted to help, but after researching all possible solutions, my hopes and prayers just weren't enough.

iPhone, MMS, AT&T and you...

iPhone and ATTThe iPhone 3.0 software has been released and those of us within the US are without 2 of the most wanted features: MMS and tethering. At this particular juncture, I think it's safe to say tethering is going to be at a premium. I've read some reports predicting that it could cost an additional $65/mo.

What about MMS? In today's world of smartphones and even your average flip phone, carriers and their plans don't really discriminate between SMS and MMS. If that's the case with AT&T and the iPhone, why the delay? AT&T all ready offers this on a variety of other devices and is simply bundled in the messaging plan. This is why I'm starting to believe MMS is going to cost us.

960 Grid System Redesign Underway

960 Grid SystemI'm in the process of finally redesigning my site. The 960 GS really got me motivated and has mad things MUCH easier.

My redesign will be taking place on the Drupal platform. I decided to stick with it after briefly using WordPress for a clients site. I just didn't find WordPress as intuitive and I love Drupal's codebase and theme'ing capabilities.

All in all, the site will be simple by design and utilize whitespace better. I've decided to implement a few trendy elements, but largely stayed away from them where I could so I wouldn't feel like I had to redesign my site in 6 months.
